Ratios and Relationships
Ratios express a relationship between One Part and The Whole,
or between Two Parts.
The ratio is expressed using a colon. The colon looks like :

In this example, the whole is nine parts. The whole is made of
of circles, triangles and squares.

To express this relationship as a ratio, use the number of the part
and the number of the whole separated with a colon.
| The ratio of circles to all shapes is 4:9 |
There are 4 circles in every whole of 9 parts |

The ratio of triangles to all shapes is 3:9 |
There are 3 triangles in every whole of 9 parts |
The ratio of squares to all shapes is 2:9 |
There are 2 squares in every whole of 9 parts |
The ratio is read as parts in total or parts to total
